Energy Shield Sorceress Introduction & Overview
There is a wide variety of Energy Shield based Sorceress builds, as the mana burning monster mechanincs were changed in D2R 2.5, and Energy Shield became a viable option for boosting survivability. The skill lets you take damage from Mana instead of Life, and can absorb up to 95% damage at Level 40. However, Energy Shield and its synergy, Telekinesis take 40 skill points to max, so Energy Shield cannot be effectively used with skills that require many synergy skill points in order to deliver high damage, such as the Blizzard Sorc or Lightning Sorc. If you want to maximize your survivability, having a maxed out Warmth will also help with mana regeneration, and greatly boost your survival chances.
If you rely on Energy Shield and your mana for defense, you should not put any points on vitality. Instead you should put all your available points on Energy to maximize your mana. You can pre-cast a high level Energy Shield in optimal gear to boost ES, then switch items to your gameplay setup.
